News from the Local Ministry team

August 2017

The purpose of this article is to keep you informed about the changes within the local churches.

The Severnside Benefice is no more and has now become part of The Stroudwater Team which consists of fifteen local churches, which will be overseen by a Team Rector and two Team Vicars. Revd Steve Harrison has been appointed to take on the role as Team Rector, as we mentioned in last month’s article. His appointment was a unanimous decision by the representatives of the churches and we look forward to the start of his work amongst us. His official Licensing service will take place on Tuesday 1st August, 7.30pm at St Cyr’s Church in Stonehouse and everyone is most welcome to attend. Steve has moved into The Vicarage in Leonard Stanley and will be joined by his family later in the year. We wish him all the best in his new appointment and very much look forward to meeting him, hearing him preach, and sharing his Christian mission.

One of Steve’s first jobs will be to appoint a new Team Vicar who will be living in St Mary’s House in Frampton on Severn. He will join Charles Minchin, the present Vicar who is based in Stonehouse. There are many decisions yet to be made regarding the new structure. No doubt they will be made when the new team is in place.

At the core of the work Steve will be doing amongst us is the Christian belief. What do Christians believe?

The core beliefs of Christianity are summarised in 1 Corinthians 15: 1-4. Jesus died for our sins, was buried, was resurrected, and thereby offers salvation to all who receive him in faith. Unique among all other faiths, Christianity is more about a relationship than religious practices. Instead of adhering to a list of do’s and don’ts, the goal of a Christian is to cultivate a close walk with God. That relationship is made possible because of the work of Jesus Christ and the ministry of the Holy Spirit.

God be with you all
